ABOUT SHARI
|
Born and Raised in Long Island, New York, Shari has a BS in Sociology from the University of Florida and a Juris Doctorate from St. Thomas University School of Law. Shari has always been in public service, starting her career as an Assistant Public Defender in Broward County, Florida. For the past 15 years she has worked as an Assistant State Attorney in the Domestic Violence Unit of the Broward County State Attorney’s Office. In 2008, her husband died from lung disease, leaving her to raise her two boys by herself. In order to help them better cope with this tragic loss, she became certified in grief therapy through the American Institute of Health Professionals, Inc.
“The most important thing in my life was making sure my boys grew up knowing they are supported and loved. I realized through my work in Domestic Violence that there are so many kids that are not getting this support in their homes. I wanted to figure out a way to get this message to as many children as possible. Since I love to write in rhymes, and sometimes think in rhymes, I am an Artist was created. Children need to be able to express who they are in positive ways with support, encouragement and guidance." Shari lives in Fort Lauderdale, Florida with her two sons, Zachary (17) and Aiden (15). Their family was instrumental in establishing the Joseph J. Carter Mentorship Program of the Lung Transplant Foundation, named for her late husband. Their family believes it is necessary to give back to the community and try to make lives better for the people around them. When Shari is not working or being a mom, she loves to write. Please share Aiden’s message in I am an Artist with all of your family and friends. Together we can make the world a better place. |
